England making the Euros final was one of the biggest national stories to hit headlines last year. While huge brands were spending a small fortune on official sponsorship, we landed a front page story on the day of the semi-final for Swedish payments provider, Trustly.
Building up to the final, we saw an opportunity to connect England’s success to the change in consumer spending habits. We calculated the economic impact of the final on the UK’s hospitality sector, resulting in a front-page splash in national newspaper The Mirror. Pages two and three quoted Trustly’s UK spokesperson about the need for sustainable payment methods, ahead of comments by Prime Minister Boris Johnson and football legend Peter Shilton.
